eBay is a site founded by Pierre Omidyar. It is one of the successful stories of the dot com bubble. Unlike Amazon, eBay works differently offering bids for products. One of the first products sold was a broken laser pointer which when Omidyar inquired the buyer, he states that he was a collector of broken laser pointers. This gave Omidyar the motivation to continue the business in this manner. Similarly, Pay Pal was a service owned by eBay which was then sold off. Unlike Amazon that uses warehouses and reliable warehouse shelving, eBay has been able to successfully maintain their current model and earn their revenue by charging the slower when placing an item and then charging them another fee when the item is sold.

Alibaba

Alibaba is a site that was founded by Jack Ma. Jack Ma, made the site so that it would act as a portal for Chinese manufacturers to meet foreign buyers. The business became extremely successful and has boosted trade in China. The revenue generated from Alibaba is said to be grater than many other ecommerce companies combined. It is one of the most successful internet companies in China. The company has also expanded into other related industries as well.
